Wireless Internet access is an amazing new technology and Lone Oak Campsites is excited to be able to offer it to our guests at no additional charge.
Wi-Fi refers to a set of wireless networking technologies more specifically referred to as 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g. These standards are universally in use around the globe and allow users to have a Wi-Fi capable device, like a desktop computer, laptop or PDA, to connect to the internet anywhere there is a Wi-Fi access point that is available.
The three standards, that are referred to, signify the speed of the connection they are capable of producing. The 802.11b (which transmits at 11 Megabits per Second) is the most common, although it is quickly getting replaced by the faster Wi-Fi standards. Both 802.11a and 802.11g are capable of transmitting 54 Megabits per Second, with 802.11a adding additional capabilities.
Lone Oak uses the 802.11b standard which is compatible with 802.11g hardware. Our system will not work with hardware that only uses the 802.11a standard. Therefore, when purchasing Wi-Fi hardware be sure it is either 802.11b or 802.11g compatible. Wi-Fi hardware can be purchased at the following locations: Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Best Buy, your local computer store, etc.
Lone Oak does not charge for the Wi-Fi connection and will work without any passwords or security encryptions. Lone Oak has excellent Wi-Fi coverage with 9 access points located around the campground. Lone Oak does not provide security to your wireless connection.
